Think Ahead with ACCA

· Yaxin Li

My ACCA journey began with one idea that resonated deeply with me: “Think Ahead.” I wanted a deep understanding of business and a framework to make strategic, forward-looking decisions.

Through completing all foundational modules and three professional-level modules, I gained structured training across areas that directly strengthen my work in financial analytics, business strategy, and data-driven decision-making. Beyond the technical knowledge, the ACCA “Think Ahead” mindset profoundly shaped how I approach challenges — encouraging me to anticipate risks, identify opportunities, and act proactively.

Business & Strategy Fundamentals

ACCA’s foundation modules gave me a strong grounding in:

  • How companies create value

  • Business models and competitive strategy

  • Governance, risk, and internal controls

  • This foundation helps me see the bigger picture in portfolio management and strategic planning.

Financial Literacy for Smarter Decisions

Instead of “training to become an accountant,” I learned:

  • How the three financial statements connect

  • How to interpret ratios for decision-making

  • How financial insights guide business strategy

These skills allow me to translate data into actionable insights for better business decisions.

Forecasting, Planning & Performance Management

Professional modules introduced me to:

  • Budgeting and forecasting techniques

  • Performance measurement and KPIs

  • Scenario planning and sensitivity analysis

Combined with the Think Ahead mindset, these tools help me anticipate future challenges and opportunities, rather than simply responding to the past.

Ethics, Professionalism & Good Judgment

ACCA emphasizes ethical frameworks and responsible decision-making — values that are fundamental to risk management, model governance, and policy design.

Closing Thoughts

My ACCA journey wasn’t about becoming an accountant — it was about understanding business, thinking ahead, and making proactive decisions. These insights continue to shape how I approach credit strategy, model risk, and data-driven decision-making in FinTech.
